Dan "the badger"

this was a couple of years ago. my fam reminded me of it. it was just dan and some guy messing around at work but you can actually pinpoint the moment (about sec. 12) where it is no longer funny to him and he feels the need to pull out his old high school wrestling moves. make sure to pay attention all the way through and see if you can't spot dan's last act of anger. HA!

and please don't worry about me, i'm no battered wife.

YAYB!

as Parker would say it. thanks for all the 'happy birthdays.' i feel so much better knowing my babe is loved.
Speaking of love, Hil got engaged to 'Young Sam' a few weeks ago and i failed to reca-nize. They are thinking june 13, but what happens when their anniversary falls on friday? are you shuddering too? Anyway, Congrats and congrats! and if you see her, ask to see her one-of-a-kind, custom made ring. P.S. Merrady, you're engaged too? Another congrats! With your taste and style, I have the feeling that is going to be one beautiful wedding!

matty's home

this was actually the "before" picture. but two years later (after running around the house like a chicken with my head cut off, keys, camera, kids, check!) we find ourselves at the airport, arriving 45 minutes early so as to not miss anything. we check the incoming flights screen frequently, but his keeps saying 'on time' and nothing more. so everyone starts to wander, jessica takes korbin for a diaper change, i'm fishing through her diaper bag for a cracker for Caden, then matthew (i mean, Elder Nevin) just wanders out into the baggage claim with none of us paying attention. we gave him a belated "woohoo" but it was all pretty anti-climactic. and the cherry on top? my camera's battery dies after the first pic. the other missionary on the flight has a parade waiting for him front and center complete with balloons, poster, and eager happy faces who cheered at the first sight of him. oh well.
on an unrelated note, it's been a week since i posted about my birthday boy. now call me silly and needy, but doesn't anyone else want to wish him a happy birthday? i mean the first one is kind of a big deal. and i'm one of those mom's who gets jealous for their kids.

a year ago today...

...my little caden bug was born jan 15, at 5:54 pm.
he was 6 lbs 5oz. pretty tiny.
to be honest, when i found out he would be a boy, i wasn't sure i wanted him. i already had a little boy i loved, why would i need another one? but when they handed me that warm, slippery little guy, i did not want to give him back. he's been too easy to love. he's been the sweetest baby, he's a good snuggler, he's always slept thru the night and he's mastered the baby kiss.

happy birthday you handsome devil!
life's sweet - take a big bite

p.s.

i was trying to be all festive for valentines' with my background but i have to admit: i hate it. i've been searching high and low (ok, just google) for a 'permanent' one - something i like so much i keep it all seasons. i've been to "simply chic" and "the cutest blog on the block" but they're not really my style. i want grownup, simple, yet whimsical. (just like me! except for that simple part) any good ideas?

my head could explode

i'm going to try to get all of this out without overwhelming or confusing any of you.
so my incredibly talented friend, Candis, has a beautiful website - heirloom paperie. But did you know that heirloom paperie has a blog with FREE TEMPLATE TUESDAYS and $5 DOLLAR FRIDAYS?!!
i must say this weeks free template tuesday is looking mighty good, no? anyway. she referenced another blog to say where she got the font: idiy. {hilary, you must take a peek at this blog - i insist} and from there, i was led to another blog, magic jelly, where i happily downloaded 12 FUN AND FREE FONTS. i KNOW! i'm sort of a font junkie and with just a few chain clicks i felt like a pirate finally digging up that big ol' X. all of these blogs offer cool and free downloads. have fun making your pretty things!

there is no charge for awesomeness

i took the martha stewart crafting I.Q. quiz and, yeah, i got a perfect 10. take the quiz here

just when you thought it was safe to buy labels...

so there i was, minding my own business, at Office Max of all places, when i was assaulted . . . by prettiness! i swear it follows me where ever i go, lurking in the shadows waiting to strike me from behind and take my money. all the while smiling so sweetly as if to say, "don't bother putting up a struggle, we both know i'm going home with you." as soon as i could sense the danger, i bolted for the door. i didn't manage to escape without buying this coupon organizer and mouse pad though.
it seems like i'm not safe anywhere anymore. maybe the gas station. the line is called diVOGA, and although most of their products are in store only, {and they do have quite a lot to look at} they do have a few pretty things here, that is if you're not afraid.

fill in the blank

my name is
carolyn renae geddes. 'carolyn' to my family, 'care' to dan's family, 'mama' to my lovelies and an assortment of odd nicknames to my dad, ranging from 'lina' to 'linoleic' {the fatty acid}

am known for
being late, crossing the line (see my profile), pretty wrapped gifts, my blank scrapbooks at baby showers, attempting to make rather than buy

am addicted to
shopping online, chocolate, fabric, chedder bay biscuits @ Red Lobster

am perpetually
doing laundry, 'decorating' my house, making lists

have always wanted to
be able to play guitar, be able to speak french, go surfing - but not as a tourist, go on a jungle safari

wish i could still
dance, fit into my wedding dress or at least be that size

will someday
own a shop, own a cabin, have a daughter, take a giant family vacation

think showering everyday is overrated

in 2009, resolve to
{amongst other things}
-be nice to people - even behind their back
-learn at least 3 songs on the electric guitar
-spend quality time with parker every day
-not miss one week of food storage
-attend the temple at least once a month
-paint our bedroom the color pretty

tag
anyone who would like to - be my guest!

Christmas and New Years... here they are, there they go!
I know I haven't been my best blogging self lately, but New Years for me equals:
CLEAN HOUSE!
And once I get into a frenzie like that, it's best not to stop me. I usually create more mess than was there before by emptying drawers and sorting piles on every surface. Gotta keep on it or it won't get put back. But for your viewing pleasure here was our Christmas morning:
{a special shout out to Candis for the collage idea. and because she is probably reading this via iphone on her morning sickness riddled couch. }secondly, I try to add a dash of homemade to Christmas. Although I didn't have much time for 'from scratch,' I did get to do a little semi-homemade. Here's a sample. I didn't get a picture of everything before it flew out the door...

and New Year's was a blast when you've got the Batemans and the Ellises near by.
Can you say 4 different kinds of fondue? I think I love this tradition we have formed.

And we wrapped up the evening with a little jowling. Not our best work, but at one in the morning and so full of chocolate it's seeping out your toes, it wouldn't have been our best anything. {WARNING! this contains disturbing images.}
