They seem to be everywhere

I'm not much of a photographer, bear with my crappy photo. Despite it's popularity, and despite the fact that I very much think it needs a different frame, I really love my new poster! I got it here. It's a reproduction of British WWII propaganda posters. I just think it's a great mantra staring me in the face every day. Plus it reminds me of Tim Gunn. :) At least it's his voice I hear in my head when I read it.

when I'm meeting someone new..

Whenever I try to not be myself, I just end up being a louder and more obnoxious version of myself. I think I should just stick to being myself.

don't come around here no more

the two unsuspecting salesman today dropped the last straw on this camel's back. you think they would cover this in training! if you come to my door and ask, "is your mom or dad home?" you can just turn around and walk away. because whatever it is you're selling- i don't care if it's Elvis Presley shaped, gourmet imported caramel filled chocolates that come wrapped in a 1/2 yard of fabric, i'm not going to buy it now. i've thought of some snotty replies, {i don't know if they're home, would you like me to call them and find out?} but i can never remember to say them once the offense is committed. (and yes, this does happen to me frequently.)
...so i'll try to cut them off at the pass. for those of you without a local craft store...
first of all: i feel sorry for you; second: there are some great stamps to choose from here. just use a foam brush to lightly dab a little acrylic paint onto you stamp and press firmly but gently onto your plaque. don't forget to put a clear coat on when you're finished to protect it from the elements. {and the occasional egg from a snubbed solicitor.}

todays carolynism

first of all, i would like to state for the record that i have read the church's article concerning the scandalous 'Big Love' episode. i find it to be both comforting and resoundingly truthful. however, as a personal choice, i will not be supporting HBO if i can help it.

now for some deep thoughts: {thunk while watching the beatles anthology}

i think,
the best artists are those who are slightly to severely crazy. they keep you coming back for more in an effort to understand them. but you never completely will. thus the supply never meets the demand.

BUMMER

I will sadly have to take 'the flight' off my language board. Or at least endorse only their tunes. Why? Because I'm boycotting HBO. I think you all know why - 'Big Love' a.k.a. Don't worry, we're not portraying Mormons... just their sacred Temple rooms, clothing, and ordinances. {Buttheads!} Do you think it's a coincidence, or is this Tom Hanks way of saying: "In your face, you un-American cavemen! This is my way of saying I'm not really sorry just in case my public 'apology' didn't do the job." He is the shows producer.

And I so wanted to own the 'Flight of the Conchords' seasons on DVD to enjoy over and over again. Oh well. So long fellas. Thanks for the laughs. If another network wants to pick up your show... take it!!

carolyn-isms

i guess sometimes i say some pretty weird things. i can be a very pensive person. these little thoughts pop into my head and i find myself nodding in agreement. and then i voice these little thoughts. Hilary call these 'carolynisms.'
I think every monday i will post one of my carolynisms. and you can nod in agreement - or not, whatever.

Today's carolynisms:

the older i get, the more i realize that i can become {and am becoming} the person i've always wanted to be. and that thought makes me want to get out of bed in the morning and live!

the answers

David Bowie is from London. He was born in Brixton as David Robert Jones. But there was already a Davy Jones in the biz (hey, hey we're the monkees) so he changed his name. I just wanted to see if someone thought he was from Canada or Guam or something.

He toured as alter ego Ziggy Stardust in 1972. If you ever see a pic of him with face paint and red hair, it's not Bowie, it's Ziggy. I know, the pants are nasty. But on me they'd look divine.

David Bowie did a duet with Bing Crosby. The Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth.
Lovely song.

David Bowie recorded with:
John Lennon, Luther Vandros (I know! right?), Queen (if you squint reeeal hard you can spot Freddie Mercury in his famous tank.), Tina Turner, Iggy Pop, Mick Jagger, Nine Inch Nails, to name a few.

The Goblin King's name is Jareth. Well done all. (and that's toby.)

Movies the Bowie has been in:
The Man Who Fell to the Earth, Just a Gigolo, Christiane F., The Hunger, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Yellowbeard, Absolute Beginners, Labyrinth, The Last Temptation of Christ, The Linguini Incident, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, Basquiat, Gunslinger's Revenge, Everybody Loves Sunshine, Zoolander, The Prestige (the itty bitty pic above), Arthur and the Invisibles, to name a few. and no, I did not already know this entire list.

David Bowie is married to Iman. Doesn't this pic make you wish you had one just like it of you and your hubby? {Candis, this spring, you're taking my family pics... make it happen. i expect to look just as skinny and dan appear to have just as much hair.}

At a 2004 concert, Bowie was hit in the eye with a lollipop. it stuck. he called to the audience, "you [insert profanity] wankers!" (is that ok? can I type wankers if it's not a swear word to me?) he still did the show. what a trooper.
So now you know. Thanks to my nearest and dearest who humored me. :)
(and the extra tid-bit of trivia via Julie)
