Do you like the 'rio?

Me too.

oh mystery man. You are the reason that so much of the world thinks that BYU students are prudes. {pardon my french}

a midsummer night's dream

is the inspiration for the bridal hairpiece. I've been playing with some whimsical bridal lace that Stacy brought over. I have a good idea of where I'm going, but I wanted to see what came to other people's minds when they think, MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DEAM.
and what better place to look for creative inspiration than etsy?

hard to see, but this is a headband

chocolate chocolate chocolate...aack!

{I hope you all know what I'm quoting}

many things are coming to pass right now! man alive! I have thought traffic in my head! so right now my blog is going to be my notebook of sorts to collect them all and keep them so they don't get lost. {aren't blogs great?!}
Here's what's on the agenda this summer:

FAMILY PICTURES
I don't even know these people. But they look much happier than we ever could. We are having a mini session on Saturday with Kari Hennefer - a sort of trial run. I'm hoping to get the real deal soon after. I cut dan's hair this morning. One down - two to go. No time for me to get one before then :( {Stacy, you're the best set of shears in the West!} I shall be scheming what we'll wear and poses I like. My goal is to finally have one where I like the way I look, and my kids are smiling. Hey - it could happen!

ALTER WEDDING DRESS
This cutie is Eric Player. She's my friend Candis' baby sister. She bought herself a pretty wedding dress from Alyses for her wedding in June. {I think we all know how I feel about that place.} We'll see if I can't get this dress to go from 'pretty' to divine in the next few weeks before her bridals.

CRUISE TO THE BAHAMAS
We're getting the H out of dodge at the end of May. I'm going to need to drop a few lbs and find some seriously cute beach clothes till then. Woo Woo! Can't wait!

THIS
I applied for this for the beginning of June. I don't know if I'm accepted yet - baby accessories is a cut throat market! but if I am, I going to get my rear in gear sewing product, making newbies, and finding some cute ideas for booth set up.

MY BRO IS GETTING MARRIED
in the middle of June. I don't have to do anything for the wedding, but I'll be danged if my kids don't look absolutely adorable there! Plus I'll need a stellar dress. We'll see if I have time to make one.

THIS HANDSOME FELLOW IS TURNING 5!
I distinctly remember my 5th birthday. My parents threw me a circus party and I can still hear the John Phillips Sousa they played. He too shall have a circus/carnival party. It shall be my best work ever.

Plus there's planning the shower for my sister-in-law, Erin, helping plan the layout for my mother-in-law's booth at the Home Quilt Show in two weeks, bridal showers, home projects, and planting something, ANYTHING, in my dirt outside. Not forgetting all the birthdays, Hil is having a baby, Katie is having a baby. more goodies, more showers... my country's 500th anniversary to plan, my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder, and Gilder to frame for it. I swamped!

So the real question is: Will my bathroom ever get cleaned? I don't know.

boycott winter

It's time to say "NO to snow"! Because you let it happen once, and then it hangs around all dang year!!
Dan looks like a little winter gnome with his hat back like that, yes? I asked him "why so dorky?" He replied, "If I wear my hat, my head gets warm."
Hmmmm. I didn't even bother to continue that discussion. After all, he does have a point.
All I do these days is sit around watching chick flicks and folding laundry in my 'me' time. I just can't be motivated in these conditions. And to top it off, Caden has the cold that wouldn't leave. {By the way, nothing is more unsettling than to hear your two year old sneeze while you're driving, turn back to see two channels of snot bridging his nostrils and upper lip, turn back to grab some tissue which you keep handy in the front seat for just such an occasion, only to turn back to said two year old and the snot has magically disappeared. nothing.}

but here's a little funsie tag, just for ... well, funsies.

If I was a month, I'd be May, or June. Whichever is nicer this year.
If I was a day of the week, I'd be Saturday Saturday.
If I was a time of day, I'd be Naptime.
If I was planet, I'd be Earth. blue and green.
If I was a sea animal, I'd be a crab in the morning and a whale at night.

If I was a direction, I'd be North. because I'm tall.
If I was a piece of furniture, I'd be a long, tufted chaise lounge. reupholstered in a fun print.
If I was a liquid, I'd be cold.
If I was a gemstone, I'd be a sapphire.
If I was a tree, I'd be green?! {inside joke for all you Drop Dead Gorgeous fans}

If I was a tool, I'd be a rotary cutter, or a staple gun.
If I was a flower, I'd be an orchid. because I really only need to be watered once a week.
If I was a kind of weather, I'd be fairweather.
If I was a musical instrument, I'd be a trumpet, I think.
If I was a color, I'd be a warm blue. A little moody, a little whimsical.

If I was an emotion, I'd be enthusiastic, most of the time.
If I was a fruit, I'd be a strawberry. which is technically not a fruit.
If I was a sound, I'd be whirr whirr.
If I was an element, I'd be water, but can I come in the form of summer rain?
If I was a car, I'd be a vintage jaguar convertible roadster. probably '39-'41. Painted a lovely hollandaise color. wait - is this the car we'd be, or the car we want?

Tag - you're it.

lost in love

Are you a lost-aholic? {Don't say anything about the premiere - Dan and I are watching it tonight!!}
I saw these on someones blog and snorted with delight. They remind me of the N'SYNC valentines I passed out when I was 16. I liked Lance. Yeah. I know.

More to delight in here

tee hee!

The whole Geddes clan got some family pictures done last Saturday with a new photographer.
{I'll be sure and post the good ones later.}
But I just can't stop giggling at this one of my fam. Oh where do I begin? Parker's enthusiasm? Or the fact that I look like a hiker that just decided to poke my head into the picture at the last second?
Or that it's SOOO edited that it looks like a newspaper clipping?
Or the thought that we'd like this picture enough to even want it edited?
{oh man! I know it's not nice, but I can't stop laughing at it!}

the answers

David Bowie is from London. He was born in Brixton as David Robert Jones. But there was already a Davy Jones in the biz (hey, hey we're the monkees) so he changed his name. I just wanted to see if someone thought he was from Canada or Guam or something.

He toured as alter ego Ziggy Stardust in 1972. If you ever see a pic of him with face paint and red hair, it's not Bowie, it's Ziggy. I know, the pants are nasty. But on me they'd look divine.

David Bowie did a duet with Bing Crosby. The Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth.
Lovely song.

David Bowie recorded with:
John Lennon, Luther Vandros (I know! right?), Queen (if you squint reeeal hard you can spot Freddie Mercury in his famous tank.), Tina Turner, Iggy Pop, Mick Jagger, Nine Inch Nails, to name a few.

The Goblin King's name is Jareth. Well done all. (and that's toby.)

Movies the Bowie has been in:
The Man Who Fell to the Earth, Just a Gigolo, Christiane F., The Hunger, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Yellowbeard, Absolute Beginners, Labyrinth, The Last Temptation of Christ, The Linguini Incident, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, Basquiat, Gunslinger's Revenge, Everybody Loves Sunshine, Zoolander, The Prestige (the itty bitty pic above), Arthur and the Invisibles, to name a few. and no, I did not already know this entire list.

David Bowie is married to Iman. Doesn't this pic make you wish you had one just like it of you and your hubby? {Candis, this spring, you're taking my family pics... make it happen. i expect to look just as skinny and dan appear to have just as much hair.}

At a 2004 concert, Bowie was hit in the eye with a lollipop. it stuck. he called to the audience, "you [insert profanity] wankers!" (is that ok? can I type wankers if it's not a swear word to me?) he still did the show. what a trooper.
So now you know. Thanks to my nearest and dearest who humored me. :)
(and the extra tid-bit of trivia via Julie)

The Bowie

In honor of my new playlist, I thought I'd put together a little bowie trivia quiz. I ask the questions, you guess the answers and post in the 'comments' section. No cheating and no party poopers please. If you don't know the answer, make something up. I'm not hard to make giggle. And even if you don't care for David Bowie, it could be fun to learn more about a legend, yes?

The Questions:

1. Where is David Bowie from?

2. In 1972, He toured as an alter ego. What was his name?

3. In 1977, Bowie recorded a duet with what famous crooner?

4. Name two other famous bands or people he's recorded with.

5. In 1986, Bowie played the 'Goblin King' in the movie Labyrinth. The Goblin King's name is said only three times, what is it?

6. Name two other movies, besides Labyrinth, he's been in.

7. Bowie is married to what famous super model?

8. At a 2004 concert, Bowie was hit in the eye by what food item?

Good luck, can't wait to see your answers!

fill in the blank

my name is
carolyn renae geddes. 'carolyn' to my family, 'care' to dan's family, 'mama' to my lovelies and an assortment of odd nicknames to my dad, ranging from 'lina' to 'linoleic' {the fatty acid}

am known for
being late, crossing the line (see my profile), pretty wrapped gifts, my blank scrapbooks at baby showers, attempting to make rather than buy

am addicted to
shopping online, chocolate, fabric, chedder bay biscuits @ Red Lobster

am perpetually
doing laundry, 'decorating' my house, making lists

have always wanted to
be able to play guitar, be able to speak french, go surfing - but not as a tourist, go on a jungle safari

wish i could still
dance, fit into my wedding dress or at least be that size

will someday
own a shop, own a cabin, have a daughter, take a giant family vacation

think showering everyday is overrated

in 2009, resolve to
{amongst other things}
-be nice to people - even behind their back
-learn at least 3 songs on the electric guitar
-spend quality time with parker every day
-not miss one week of food storage
-attend the temple at least once a month
-paint our bedroom the color pretty

tag
anyone who would like to - be my guest!

Eartha Kitt passed away. You may have heard her serenading you from my Christmas playlist. She was an awesome catwoman, hilarious as 'Isma', and my leg idol.

what I've been up to

{you may want to use the bathroom first}
Well lately I . . .
